Other Arts

In addition to our traditional karate programs we feature a wide variety of martial art programs taught by master instructors.

Jeet Kune Do

Instructor: Arron Grammond

Jeet Kune Do (Way of the Intercepting Fist) is about applying philosophy and principals to application based skills. The main principals we follow are are: Simplicity, Efficiency, and Adaptability. This is a method of training towards individual development in the martial arts, yet it is also a scientific approach to finding the common truths behind traditional styles. As a JKD Concept this can be applied to any traditional art and learn from it. Original JKD was based on the roots of: Wing Chun, Western Boxing, and Fencing.  We observe 4 levels of basic development, then as individuals we continue to explore and learn. This means our personal expression of JKD is alive and evolves some over time.

Basic JKD Progression is based on 4 levels of development:
Level I - (Observation) the Basics;
Level II - (Imitation) Developing the Basics;
Level III - (Duplication) Applying the Basics;
Level IV – (Liberation) from the Basics.

Wing Tsun

Instructor: Keith Sonnenberg

WingTsun (pronounced 'wing-chun') is a system of Chinese kung fu that places emphasis on personal self-defense and fitness. The techniques of WingTsun lend themselves to close-range fighting which is a contrast to many other martial arts. The stances are upright and footwork is quick and flexible. Only three kuen (forms or "kata" in Japanese) exist in WingTsun and all training is based on the application of the material in these forms resulting in a seemly endless array of applications. There are no jumps or spins and WingTsun is low impact. In addition, all kicks are directed to targets below the waist level. It is in a WingTsun class that you learn the authentic "chi sau" training method where two participants "cling arms" in a type of rotation of the arms designed to build the feeling in the arms that is essential to high-speed close-quarters echanges common to this style. A student of WingTsun can also vastly improve their health and fitness levels due to WingTsun's intelligent design and focused execution of the movements.
